Cage Warriors have announced a trio of bouts set for their return to London on March 30th at Indigo at the O2.
In the three contests slated for Cage Warriors 169, Will Currie will face Leon Aliu in a Middleweight contest, Jimmy Quinn will return to the capital in a Bantamweight bout against Yohan Salvador and Tommy Brunning is set to make his professional debut against Kevin Cesari.
Currie’s Cage Warriors tenure has been a turbulent ride. After a unanimous decision win over the current Middleweight champion Dario Bellandi, ‘Drago’ was handed his first loss in controversial fashion against fellow surging prospect Christian Leroy Duncan. With both men unhappy about the ending of their contest, they ran it back three months later. Unfortunately for Currie it was the same outcome, dropping a unanimous decision to CLD.
A four fight win streak over a 10 month period shot Currie into title contention and he faced Mick Stanton for the vacant Middleweight strap. Stanton’s gritty style proved to be too much for Currie and the veteran beat ‘Drago’ with a unanimous decision. Curry picked up two stoppage victories after the Stanton bout, as he will look to continue his fine form and get another chance to claim Cage Warriors gold.
After a victory over James Webb in his promotional debut, Aliu faced Brunno Ferreira on Dana White’s Contender Series but it was not to be for the Italian. Pulling on the yellow gloves once more, Aliu faced Darren Stewart at Cage Warriors 154. ‘The Dentist’ cruised to an unanimous decision victory and handed Aliu back to back losses for the first time in his career. He managed to get back to winning ways against Alan Carlos at Cage Warriors 162.
After a solid three year amateur career, Jimmy Quinn had the dream start to professional life last year with a viral 10 second knockout over Dan Kneil at Cage Warriors 156. However, things quickly took a turn for the 24-year-old when he faced Tom Wright at Cage Warriors 163. After an incredibly chaotic opening four minutes of the fight, Quinn found himself trapped in a guillotine and was forced to tap.
Yohan Salvador will be keen to add to his winning streak over Cage Warriors prospects, entering the bout on the back of an impressive unanimous decision victory over Yoga Prabowo at Cage Warriors Newcastle. After a difficult start to professional life, the Frenchman has found his feet and has amassed a cool 4-2 record from his last 6 bouts.
There is a lot of hype surrounding Tommy Brunning ahead of his professional debut. Undefeated as an amateur, he picked up both the Cage Warriors Academy South East Bantamweight and Featherweight straps before making the decision to join the professional ranks.
Kevin Cesari will be the man looking to hand Brunning a defeat in his professional debut. Having taken a fight against Leon Armes on less than a week's notice at Cage Warriors 164, the Frenchman has been given another opportunity to compete for the promotion but this time, will have a full training camp behind him.
The promotion had already announced the return of perennial Featherweight contender and former champion Jordan Vucenic as he faces Simone D’Anna but the addition of the three aforementioned bouts has added some extra intrigue to the London card.
