All 14 fights will go ahead on the blockbuster UFC 299 card tomorrow night – with only CJ Vergara missing weight, for the third time in six fights.
Due to the Florida State regulations, all athletes must attempt to weigh in within the first 60 minutes of the two hour slot and if they miss weight at the first time of asking, they have the remaining hour to meet their contracted weight. In his first attempt, Vergara came in at 127lbs and came in the exact same on his second attempt so will lose 30% of his purse and his contest with Assu Almabayev official.
At the top of the bill, Champion Sean O’Malley and challenger Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera both came on the 135lbs championship weight limit, making the rematch official! The only blemish on O’Malley’s record is his loss to Chito, when ‘Suga’ suffered an ankle injury which led to his leg going out from underneath him. Ever since, O’Malley has been keen to put the record straight and settle the score with Vera and with the title on the line, it is all to play for.
In the co-main event, Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint Denis weighed in at 156lbs and 155lbs, respectively. With 8 finishes between them, from their last 5 outings, this battle between the seasoned professional and the rising star will set things up nicely for the main event. Entering the contest on the back of a loss to Just Gaethje, ‘The Diamond’ will be hoping he can keep his number three spot at the top of the Lightweight division whilst Saint Denis looks to leapfrog the queue and put himself in a prime position to compete for either the BMF belt, or the Lightweight title.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s promotional debut against Kevin Holland is locked in with both men coming in at bang on 170lbs. On a card littered with talent, the Welterweight contest between Holland and MVP has whet the appetite of many MMA fans. Both men are known for their unorthodox but exhilarating styles, which can only make for an interesting clash when the two meet in the octagon.
Jack Dela Maddalena takes on his biggest challenge to date in his Welterweight contest against Gilbert Burns with the pair successfully coming in under the 171lbs weight limit. Maddalena has looked unstoppable of late, collecting 6 wins since signing with the promotion in 2021. Burns had been in the UFC two years before Maddalena made his professional debut, the Brazilian will no doubt want to show that experience is key and once again take the hype from a young up and coming talent.
Closing out the main card, former UFC Bantamweight champion Petr Yan will look to pick up his first win since 2021 in his 135lbs contest with Song Yadong. Two impressive victories against Ricky Simon and Chris Gutierrez, Yadong currently sits seventh in the division. If he can find a path to victory against the fourth ranked Yan, ‘Ku Fu Kid’ could be next to face the victor of the main event.
