Although only competing once in 2023, Hughes claimed two of Cage Warriors’ end of year awards, with his electric walk to the cage at Cage Warriors 141 being voted the 2023 moment of the year and the subsequent brutal finish of Jay Quaghagens that same night taking home the 2023 knockout of the year with a stunning left hook in the first round.

A big victory against Oduwole would move Hughes a step closer to a showdown with the current Lightweight champion George Hardwick, when the Middlesbrough man returns from injury.
