Mason Jones is may well bide his time and see which promotions approach him following his Cage Warriors 175 victory.
‘The Dragon’ was back in action on Thursday night (July 25) at the BEC Arena as Cage Warriors headed to Manchester just two days before the monumental UFC 304 card goes down in the same city, tonight (July 27).
In his co-main event bout, the 29-year-old took on unbeaten prospect Michael Pagani. The pair went to war and were both bleeding by the end of the contest, with Pagani sporting a particularly nasty looking cut on his eye. After the three rounds, Jones walked away with the unanimous decision win.
Discussing the 15 minute bout with Edith Labelle post fight, Jones admitted that some of Pagani’s tactics surprised him and although unhappy he did not get the stoppage, he will take the win nevertheless. He said:
“I did have fun, yeah. To be fair, it was exactly what I expected. I didn't expect him to jab so well, I expected everything to be off the back hand, I fell in a little bit but yeah, I thought he was done (in) that second round. The split was bad, I could see into his eye and I thought, Oh, if I keep working that, he's going to finish.
“The jab was starting to hurt, I was starting to wear him down. I thought, ‘Here we go, I’ve got this' It was a really, really hard first round. He got me with some nice shots, but I was composed all the way through it. I was in control and yeah, I just thought I was going to get him out of there and yeah, not quite what I wanted, but a fight for the fans.”
The Welshman is unsure as to what the future holds but admitted he would be more than happy to explore several options before deciding on which promotion to sign with, and with the likes of PFL making big moves for European talent, there could be an extremely interesting battle for Jones’ signature.
“UFC, whatever comes. I'm really open to any offers to be fair, like Cage Warriors have been insane to me, that's 12 wins on a Cage Warriors canvas. It's a crazy promotion but yeah, I'm very open to see what's next and whether I go back or whether I go somewhere else, it just all depends on what comes in.
"So yeah, it's exciting.”
