Scottish rising star Mark Ewen will look to return to winning ways in front of a home crowd against Alexandr Chizov.

The two will meet in a Showcase Lightweight bout on September 28, when the PFL head to Glasgow for the first time with PFL Europe 3: 2024 Playoffs.

Ewen has largely been tipped as one of the most exciting up and coming prospects in the UK but in his maiden trip to the SmartCage, the Scotsman was beaten by way of unanimous decision against Claudio Pacella.

Prior to that, Ewen had stopped all five previous opponents within the distance. After two TKO stoppages on the UK domestic scene in his first two professional bouts, Ewen took to the road to test himself against international competition. Showing his submission skillset was just as slick as his striking when he stopped Adrian Sanchez with a second round Anaconda choke. It was then a trip to France for the Higher Level MMA athlete, who stopped Khairulla Khaitullaev with inch perfect punches at Ares FC 10.

Ewen then signed with Bellator in 2023 and made his promotional debut at Bellator 299, stopping the previously unbeaten Noah Gugnon in the second round of their bout.

Equally, Chizov’s journey with PFL Europe has been far from plain sailing. After securing a second round stoppage win in his promotional debut, Chizov entered the 2023 European tournament. In the opening round, he was beaten by Acoidan Duque but because the Spaniard missed weight, he was not able to move onto the Playoffs, meaning Chizov advanced even though he lost. He was then set to fight John Mitchell in the semi-finals but missed weight and was subsequently removed from the card.

The Latvian was back in action at the start of 2024 but couldn’t secure a win, as Daniele Scatizzi tied up a heel hook in the opening round of their contest.

A win for both men is crucial as they head into in to the contest at the OVO Hydro in September and with the Glasgow card being the penultimate European card of 2024, a big win could very well clinch a spot in the 2025 European Season.
