Will Currie is the latest of an abundance of Cage Warriors alumni to be confirmed for the upcoming season of Dana White’s Contender Series.

Many a Cage Warriors athlete has stepped inside the UFC Octagon after a successful spell in the yellow gloves but the Contender Series is proving to be a hugely popular route for those who are not offered a contract, outright.

The likes of Jake Hadley and Oban Elliott both claimed their UFC contracts through the show and this season, so far, is set to feature four Cage Warriors athletes.

The most recent to be added to the series is Will Currie.

Alongside Lone’er Kavanagh, Luke Riley and Francesco Mazzeo, Currie will appear on this series to attempt to claim his contract to step inside the octagon.

At just 25, ‘Drago’ already has 15 bouts under his belt, with a title fight being included within.

Currie joined Cage Warriors as a 4-0 prospect and in his debut with the promotion, claimed a unanimous decision win against the now Middleweight champion Dario Bellandi. He then suffered his first defeat, in controversial circumstances, at the hands of Christian Leroy Duncan. The bout was judged to have been stopped slightly prematurely by the referee so the promotion rebooked the contest three months later but it was Duncan, once more, who had his hand raised.

Facing back to back losses for the first time in his career, Currie was keen to get back in the win column and done so in style, going on a four fight win streak, with three of the wins coming in the first round.

This then led to his first shot at Cage Warriors gold when he faced UK MMA veteran Mick Stanton at Cage Warriors 151. Stanton’s fight IQ proved to be too much and Currie was handed his first loss in two years.

Since then, Currie has got himself back onto a win streak, with three stoppage victories in the space of 8 months.

For his contender series bout, the Brit will take on Djorden Santos. The Brazilian is currently 7-1 with 5 of the wins coming within the distance.
