Bellator London has suffered a major blow, following the cancellation of Johnny Eblen vs Fabian Edwards.
The Middleweight title fight was set to be the main event of the Bellator Champions Series London card on September 14 at the OVO Wembley Arena.
“Next week’s Bellator Champion Series: London main event rematch featuring Johnny Eblen (15-0) vs. Fabian Edwards (13-3) Middleweight World Title fight has been rescheduled. A new fight date will be announced in the coming days. The September 14th co-main event at OVO Arena in London, England, a Women’s Featherweight bout featuring Leah McCourt (8-3) taking on Sara Collins (5-0), has been elevated to the main event.
• Joseph Luciano replaces Ross Houston in a catchweight bout against Steven Hill
• Eman Almudhaf vs. Daiane Da Silva added to the card”
At the time of writing, the new date for the Middleweight title fight has not yet been announced, nor has the reason for the cancellation of the booking.
The title challenger, Edwards, took to Instagram following the announcement and said:
“All in due time! #Thegetback won’t be able to bless the London crowd with the get back but fight news coming soon”
As mentioned in the statement, Leah McCourt vs Sara Collins will now be the event’s main event, as both women look to take a step closer to a shot at the Bellator Featherweight strap.
There have been two other changes to the card. As reported earlier this week, Ross Houston has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Steven Hill. Joseph Luciano will now step in and face Hill in a catchweight contest.
A women’s Featherweight bout has also been added to the card with unbeaten prospects Eman Almudhaf and Daiane Da Silva squaring off. Almudhaf is currently 4-0-0, with all wins coming by way of stoppage before the third round. Da Silva comes into the contest riding a three fight win streak, with her last two wins ended in the very first round.
