UFC 308 next month has lost one of it's main card offerings after several reports were recently backed up by Alexander Volkov.
The Russian heavyweight took to Instagram to announce that a knee injury has led to him withdrawing from his upcoming fight with Ciryl Gane on October 26 in Abu Dhabi.
"I have to inform you that my fight on October 26 in Abu Dhabi is cancelled due to my knee injury. I will try to return to the gym and fight as soon as possible. So stay tuned and thank you for your support and understanding."
The reported news via French outlet La Sueur stated that the bout is now expected to be rescheduled for UFC 310 in Las Vegas on December 7.
However, MMA Fighting have since claimed that a source close to the fight said that there's "no guarantee" of that happening.
Volkov would've been looking to earn his fifth consecutive win after beating Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexander Romanov, Tai Tuivasa and Sergei Pavlovich.
In turn, the 35-year old was out for revenge having been beaten by Gane all the way back in June of 2021 where he was defeated over five rounds at the UFC Apex.
Gane hasn't fought since last year's Paris event where he stopped Serghei Spivac in the second round.
With both men coming in as top #3 contenders in the heavyweight division, it makes a lot of sense to match them back up once Volkov is healthy again.
As for the rest of the UFC 308 card, it's still looking like a huge night in Abu Dhabi thanks to some big match-ups.
The main event features one of the most highly anticipated UFC title fights in some time as Ilia Topuria defends the featherweight crown against BMF champ Max Holloway.
