UFC 307 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City was a night that was defined by the three judges sat cage-side and their mixed scorecards.
The highlight of the card was the main event where Alex Pereira, as usual, made sure that the services of the judges was not required.
Light heavyweight title challenger Khalil Rountree started the fight well, landing the more significant strikes in the opening two rounds.
However, as Pereira has done in many of his fights, it was only a matter of time before the damage he was able to produce caught up with his opponent and in the fourth round, he produced a symphony of destruction to close the show in brutal fashion.
The scorecards were always going to be a big talking point in the co-main event where Raquel Pennington and Julianna Peña went back-and-forth.
In the night's fourth split decision outcome, Peña reclaimed the title after surviving a fourth round knockdown following her strong start to the contest.
Mario Bautista also won a controversial split decision when he went three rounds with MMA legend José Aldo, narrowly winning the fight with a lot of clinching against the cage.
Roman Dolidze's win over Kevin Holland was also surrounded in a major talking point as Holland injured his rib in the second round with his corner pulling him out of the fight before the second stanza could get underway.
In the main card opener, Kayla Harrison cemented her status as the next in line for a shot at the bantamweight title, coming out on top in a close fight with Ketlen Vieira where her ground and pound made the difference.
The featured prelim saw Joaquin Buckley earn his biggest win to date where after struggling against Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, he produced a huge third-round knockout, becoming just the second man to stop Thompson with strikes in MMA.
