Heavyweight fan favourite Derrick Lewis will no longer compete at tonight's UFC Fight Night event in Edmonton.

UFC officials announced on Friday night in the US that Lewis had withdrawn from the fight due to medial reasons that were not related to his weight cut.

"The Black Beast" had already successfully hit the heavyweight limit for his main card bout with Jhonata Diniz.

Due to the late and unfortunate circumstances, Diniz will not be in action meaning that the card will continue with a total of 13 bouts.

Lewis was looking to make his 30th appearance inside the Octagon following the 23rd knockout of his career last time out.

The 39-year old rebounded from a decisive loss to Jailton Almeida by stopping Rodrigo Nascimento in the third round.

This fight was a big opportunity for Brazil's Diniz who has earned back-to-back wins inside the Octagon since signing to the promotion.

There has been no further comment on Lewis' current condition and how severe it is.

Lewis was not in attendance for the ceremonial weigh-ins that took place yesterday but at the time, the fight was still scheduled to take place.
