"The Cowboy" is getting back on the horse for a few more rides before he leaves town for other pursuits.

Donald Cerrone announced his retirement back in July of 2022 following his sixth consecutive loss inside the Octagon.

The 41-year old veteran was submitted by Jim Miller at UFC 276 in Las Vegas and after laying his gloves down, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame the following year.

However, Cerrone recently claimed that he had plans to return with the goal of fighting two more times under the UFC banner.

This would take his total UFC & WEC fights to 50, as well as leaving him without an active contract so that he could pursue other ventures like boxing.

UFC CEO Dana White was less than pleased about the idea but it appears that Cerrone will be following through with his plans.

The UFC's anti-doping agency, Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) recently announced that "Cowboy" has returned to the testing pool.

Cerrone provided more context on his intentions during a recent appearance on The Pacman Jones Show.

“I just re-entered the testing pool so I have to be six months clean,” Cerrone said. “Probably June or July we’ll make the comeback. I’m coming back for two more. Just two more. I want 50 fights [under the] UFC [umbrella].

“I promised the wife no matter what happens, no matter the outcome, two more and that’s it. ...

“I think it’ll be [at middleweight].”

Cerrone fought at both lightweight and welterweight throughout his career where after retiring, he left behind a record of 36-17-2.

The former UFC lightweight title challenger has always been a beloved figure in the sport but it's understandable why some would have concerns about him jumping back in at this stage.
