The UFC is heading back to Mexico City on March 29 and the first big addition has been reported for the Fight Night card.
In the middleweight division, rising talent Joe Pyfer will take on the former interim title challenger, Kelvin Gastelum.
MMA Mania's Alex Behunin reported the fight which multiple sources confirming it on Tuesday, December 31.
The 28-year old Pyfer returned to the win column last time out with a win over Marc-André Barriault at UFC 303 in June.
He stopped the Canadian in less than 90 seconds to bounce back from the first loss of his UFC career where he was convincingly beaten by Jack Hermansson.
Before coming up short in his first main event spot, Pyfer won three fights in a row, producing finishes against Alen Amedovski, Gerald Meerschaert and Abdul Razak Alhassan.
At the Arena CDMX, he will take on the 23-fight UFC veteran Gastelum who despite recording another win in 2024, didn't have the best year.
His fight with Daniel Rodriguez in June was defined by his weight issues ahead of the contest which ended up taking place at middleweight after Gastelum informed the UFC that he would not be able to make 170-pounds.
Having previously fought Israel Adesanya for the interim middleweight title in an instant classic at UFC 236 following back-to-back wins over Michael Bisping and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, the former TUF winner has struggled to maintain his form ever since.
A win over Pyfer without anything hanging over the victory could be the fresh start that he needs to put together another run at 185-pounds.
Two flyweight bouts have already been confirmed for the card with Edgar Chairez taking on C.J. Vergara and Ronaldo Rodriguez facing Kevin Borjas.
