This past week was a huge moment for the group of Dagestani fighters that all train under Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Both Islam Makhachev and Umar Nurmagomedov were at the top of the card this past weekend and their manager has since spoken about what will be next for both men.

In the main event, Makhachev successfully defended the UFC lightweight title by submitting Renato Moicano to break the record for consecutive title defences at 155-pounds.

With talk immediately turning to what could be next for the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the sport, Ali Abdelaziz posted a few statements on social media to suggest that the options that are currently being talked about might not be the obvious ones.

"The UFC has a completely different plan for Islam which doesn't include Oliveira, Arman or Ilia. But it's an unpredictable sport and you don't know what could happen," Abdelaziz wrote on January 20.

He followed that up by naming two opponents who could enter the conversation if they're able to secure big wins in the near future.

"If Justin Gaethje beats Hooker he could easily be next. If Beneil Dariush beats Poirier he can also be next. These would be 2 new names that Islam hasn't fought yet."

As for Umar, he's expected to spend some time on the side lines following his incredible battle with Merab Dvalishvili in the co-main event.

He may have failed to win the bantamweight title which means he's no longer undefeated but the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov will be back in the title picture once he recovers from an injury that he suffered in the fight.

"Usman Nurmagomedov getting a surgery tomorrow on his hand, he will be back in the cage mid or late summer," Abdelaziz confirmed.

For now, this team will turn their attention to another big fight that is coming up this weekend as Umar's brother, Usman Nurmagomedov (pictured on the right side), defends his Bellator lightweight title against Paul Hughes in Dubai.
