The first UFC PPV card of the year was a great example of how unpredictable the fight game can be at the drop of a hat.

Despite the twists and turns that can happen in the build-up to fight night, the MMA leader isn't bringing any additional back-up with them to Australia next month.

MMA Fighting reported on Monday that there are no plans at this moment to pay any back-up fighters to make weight on February 7 just in case their services are required.

The UFC has put reserves in place for some big title fights in recent times but this hasn't been the case for UFC 311 or UFC 310 before it.

This wasn't neccesary earlier this month because when Arman Tsarukyan withdrew from his main event bout with Islam Makhachev, there was already another contest on the card which featured two top lightweights, meaning that Renato Moicano stepped in to replace him.

That isn't the case with UFC 312 which will be headlined by the middleweight title fight rematch between Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland with a co-main event that sees Weili Zhang defend the belt against Tatiana Suarez.

For the strawweight title fight, the two other viable contenders in Virna Jandiroba and Yan Xiaonan are booked to face each other at UFC 314 in April meaning that there isn't a clear stand-in who could be ready to hit the mark in Sydney.

As for the landscape at 185-pounds, several top contenders are expected to be in attendance at the Qudos Bank Arena on February 8 so they may choose to be on weight just in case an opportunity comes up.

Khamzat Chimaev will seemingly be in the building on fight night as will Caio Borralho who will be cornering his Fighting Nerds teammate Bruna Brasil.
