Mauricio Ruffy threw the kind of kick you don’t see coming until you’re staring up at the lights. Bobby 'King' Green never got that chance. Two minutes into his bout at UFC 313, Ruffy timed a spinning wheel kick with such cruel precision that it sent Green’s lights out before his body hit the canvas. It was sudden, violent, and destined for every knockout reel from now until the sun burns out. This wasn’t some sort of wild swing created out of chance or necessity. Instead, it was the product of skilful repetition. Footage later showed Ruffy drilling the exact move in camp, right down to the angle and placement. He saw it coming long before anyone else did. Now seven wins deep and carrying a KO that people will still be posting at the end of the year, Ruffy didn’t pause to admire the wreckage. He called for his shot again. Beneil Dariush is next. Because when a kick like that lands, you don’t wait. You climb and use it as a platform for even greater things.
