Following Alex Pereira’s decision to vacate his light heavyweight title and move up to challenge for the interim heavyweight strap at the White House this summer, the remaining contenders in the 205-pound division take center stage this Saturday at Miami’s Kaseya Center.
Former champion Jiri Prochazka (32-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) faces rising contender Carlos Ulberg (12-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) in the main event for Pereira’s vacated title.
The main card also features four more of the biggest names in the light heavyweight division stepping into the Octagon as they look to stake their claim in the title picture.
Let’s take a look at the UFC 327 main card action.
Jiri Prochazka (#2) vs. Carlos Ulberg (#3) – Light Heavyweight Championship
With 12 combined stoppage wins in the light heavyweight division, it’s fitting that Prochazka and Ulberg were selected to compete for the vacant belt this weekend. Prochazka has built a reputation as one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster, highlighted by the eight performance bonuses he has earned in his first eight appearances.
Ulberg enters on an eight-fight win streak since losing his UFC debut to Kennedy Nzechukwu in 2021, putting the division on notice. With recent wins over former champions and top contenders such as Jan Blachowicz, Volkan Oezdemir, and Dominick Reyes, the Kiwi has rightfully earned this opportunity.
Azamat Murzakanov (#6) vs. Paulo Costa (#14) – Light Heavyweight
In a somewhat surprising move, former middleweight title contender Paulo Costa (15-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) makes his light heavyweight debut against one of the division’s hottest rising prospects.
Azamat Murzakanov (16-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) has looked exceptional during his climb up the rankings. With five stoppage wins in six UFC appearances, few fighters have been eager to face him.
Curtis Blaydes (#5) vs. Josh Hokit – Heavyweight
With the heavyweight division at something of a standstill due to Tom Aspinall’s ongoing eye injury issues, rising prospect Josh Hokit (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) gets the opportunity of a lifetime as he takes on perennial contender Curtis Blaydes (19-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) in just his third UFC appearance.
Blaydes has faced many of the division’s elite throughout his career. While Hokit has impressed in wins over Max Gimenes and Denzel Freeman, this represents a significant step up in competition.
Dominick Reyes (#10) vs. Johnny Walker (#12) – Light Heavyweight
This bout is a strong candidate for Fight of the Night, as former title challenger Dominick Reyes (15-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) faces the unpredictable Johnny Walker (22-9 MMA, 8-6 UFC).
Reyes looks to rebound from his recent loss to Carlos Ulberg, though he has won three of his last four fights, a notable turnaround following a difficult four-fight skid from 2020 to 2022.
Walker remains one of the division’s most dangerous and unorthodox fighters, with highlight-reel finishes including flying knees and spinning backfists. The winner could find themselves on the edge of the title picture by Monday morning.
Cub Swanson vs. Nate Landwehr – Featherweight
Saturday’s main card opener marks the end of an era, as Cub Swanson (30-14 MMA, 15-10 UFC) makes his 26th (and final) walk to the Octagon, becoming the last active fighter from the WEC era.
This bout will be Swanson’s 33rd UFC/WEC featherweight appearance, the most in the division’s combined history. A win would also see him surpass Max Holloway for the most victories (21) in that history. With Holloway unlikely to return to 145 pounds, Swanson could carry that record into retirement this weekend.
