This wasn't the knockout punch that won King Green the Performance Of The Night bonus, but it may have set the stage for a ferocious single-round battle. Early in the fight, Terrance McKinney had Green rocked, and looking every bit his 39 years. Most fighters would have been searching for a lifeline. Green found a second wind instead, which came in the form of this right hand into McKinney's face; this photograph freezes the exact moment the veteran sensed his younger opponent beginning to fade. He'd even been calling McKinney a “one-minute b****” during the fight, convinced the early storm couldn't last. As it turned out, he was right. The final sequence became one of the year's great finishers. A body shot folded McKinney just enough for Green to unleash a torrent of punches that forced the stoppage with a single second left in the opening round. It was the sort of comeback that reminds you why Fight of the Night bonuses exist. Bloodied, battered and almost beaten, Green somehow turned survival into spectacle. The knockout made the highlights but this punch made the knockout possible. Sometimes the best photographs aren't the finish. They're the split-second when experience quietly tells your opposition that your time is up.
