Song Yadong stunned the MMA world in Saturday’s main event when he became the first fighter to ever knock out Umar Nurmagomedov. After picking up the biggest win of his career, the Team Alpha Male has moved up three places to third in the bantamweight rankings, while Nurmagomedov slides three places to fifth.
A byproduct of Song’s move upwards sees Sean O’Malley jump one place to second, while Cory Sandhagen drops one place to sixth.
Sumudaerji Close to Top Ten
After picking up a hard-fought unanimous decision win over Alex Perez during Satrday’s main card, “The Tibetan Eagle” Sumudaerji finds himself edging ever closer to the top ten in the latest flyweight rankings and now sits at no. 11.
New Challenger in the Strawweight Division
Saturday’s co-main event also delivered a major upset as rising Brazilian star Denise Gomes flatlined former title challenger Yan Xiaonan to insert herself into the title picture at 115 pounds.
After extending her current winning streak to 5, Gomes has moved up 5 spots to fourth, effectively swapping with Xiaonan who finds herself in ninth position.
