Arman Tsarukyan is hoping to fight for the UFC lightweight championship before the end of 2026 after securing a first-round knockout victory over Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331 on Saturday night.

The Armenian lightweight contender (24-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC) stopped Ruffy in the opening round, strengthening his position as the No. 1 contender in the UFC’s 155-pound division.

Following the victory, Tsarukyan discussed his potential return to action during the post-show broadcast on Paramount Plus with Kate Scott, Chris Weidman and Michael Bisping. When asked when he would be ready to fight again, the lightweight contender made it clear that he wants to return as soon as possible.

“As soon as possible. I don't have injuries, so I'm healthy. I have bruises, but it's nothing, you know? So if they told me December, it would be great, because October, November for the camp, (maybe start in) September,” Tsarukyan said.

With a December title fight in mind, Tsarukyan indicated that he would have sufficient time to recover and complete his training camp during the preceding months.

The 155-pound contender was also asked when he expected to resume training following his knockout win over Ruffy. Tsarukyan said he would need only a short period of rest before returning to the gym.

“Two weeks. I need one or two weeks to rest, and then I'm ready. I'm young, so I didn't get hurt, so I'm ready,” Tsarukyan replied.
