Josh Hokit has responded to Alexander Volkov after the Russian heavyweight dismissed the prospect of facing him, calling a potential matchup “the easiest fight ever.”
Speaking with Helen Yee earlier this week, Volkov said he hoped Hokit would defeat Ciryl Gane at UFC 334 on Nov. 14 and claim the heavyweight title, which would potentially set up a future meeting between the two. However, Volkov also made it clear that he expects Gane to win the championship fight.
Hokit fired back on social media Thursday, questioning why Volkov believes he would have an easy time against him while pointing to his recent victories over Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis.
“Volkov saying he’d beat me easy is funny..he’ll never get the chance. I just beat Blaydes and Lewis. Volkov lost to BOTH. Now he’s fighting (Rizvan) Kuniev (who Blaydes beat), after squeaking by Almeida (who Blaydes dominated). I'm going to kill Ciryl, who he lost to twice. Zero finishes, pure boring. By the time you earn a fight with me, I’ll already be dominating LH.”
For now, Hokit has his sights set on Gane and the UFC heavyweight championship. Volkov, meanwhile, will first have to get through Kuniev at UFC 333 later this month if he hopes to remain in position for another run at the title.
If Hokit gets his way at UFC 334, the heavyweight division could look very different by the time Volkov gets another chance to challenge for the belt.
