MMA safer than boxing
The largest study of its kind from the University of Alberta, Canada, suggests boxers are more likely to be knocked out or suffer serious eye injuries than MMA fighters. “The general finding was, if you look at injury rates overall, there wasn’t a big difference,” said lead author Shelby Karpman. “But there were more severe injuries in boxing.”
One more fight begs Herschel
Strikeforce veteran and ageless NFL legend Herschel Walker says he’d “love to” have one more MMA fight. The 53-year-old still trains at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and was a constant presence at Bellator events in 2015, thanks to his relationship with Scott Coker. Walker vs. Kimbo at a Bellator tentpole event, anyone?
Cyborg splits from kings
According to WSOF VP Ali Abdel-Aziz, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino has cut ties with Rafael Cordeiro’s Kings MMA gym. Appearing on Sherdog Radio he said: “Trust me, she will never train there again.” He claimed the partnership deteriorated because Cordeiro’s children were huge Ronda Rousey fans and tried to get her autograph in Brazil.
Jones vs. Cormier 2 in works for NYC?
Jon Jones dropped a serious hint that he could be booked for a huge comeback fight in New York against Daniel Cormier. Showing off his impressive physique on Instagram, the former champ said: “I’ll be sure to be at my best April 23rd,” the very same date that the UFC has booked Madison Square Garden for a potential debut event in the Big Apple.
