From up against the fence to all-out offense – how to go on the attack when your back’s against the wall
Ricky Lundell
The BJJ black belt and NCAA Division I wrestling prodigy presents his MMA wall-work masterclass with Dan Hardy
1 - Dan has Ricky pressed up against the wall. He has control of him with double underhooks.
2 - Ricky wraps his right arm around the back of Dan’s head and grabs his forehead.
3 - Ricky uses his left palm to catch Dan’s chin, so he has full control of his head using both hands.
4 - Ricky pulls with his right hand and pushes with his left to twist Dan’s face away from him.
5 - As he continues to turn Dan, Ricky steps out with his left leg to turn Dan’s body.
6 - With Dan’s back against the wall, Ricky can attack with strikes or shoot for a takedown.
TOP TIPS
WHITE BELT
Make sure to keep your fingers out of your opponent’s eyes when you grab their forehead. It’s a foul and not nice in practice.
PURPLE BELT
Perfect this technique by creating a flow drill with your partner. After you reverse the position, grab your partner with double underhooks so he can repeat the technique.
BLACK BELT
Confuse your foe by finishing the reversal in your opposite stance. From here your follow-up strikes or takedown will come from different angles than normal.
