Greg Jackson is the most sought-after trainer in MMA. Each issue he shows you how to mix up your martial arts skills with UFC flyweight John ‘The Magician’ Dodson. Here, he demonstrates the arm triangle.



1. Greg (red T-shirt) has John pinned in side control.



2. John creates a frame with his left forearm under Greg’s chin to relieve some pressure from his pin.




3. Greg cups John’s left shoulder with his left hand. Using a brushing motion with his right arm, Greg pushes John’s arm towards his head. 



4. Greg has now moved his head to the other side of John’s left arm. He uses his head to keep John’s arm in position for the arm triangle.



5. To prevent John from reclaiming his guard, Greg reaches back with his right arm and blocks John’s far-side hip. 



6. Keeping his head in position, Greg comes up on to his toes.



7. Still blocking John’s hips with his right arm, Greg jumps to the other side of John’s body.




8. Greg lands on his knees and immediately sprawls his hips to the mat. To apply the choke, Greg grips his hands together, keeps his head close to John’s and compresses the neck and shoulder with his arms.


PRO TIP

Greg can push John’s tricep up with his right hand to create space to drop his head to the mat.
