A four-time World Jiu-Jitsu Championships gold medal winner, five-fight UFC vet Vinny Magalhaes was M-1 Global 205lb champion. He shares his best submission moves
From full mount, Vinny (top) takes hold of Scott’s left gi lapel with his right hand.
Laying down heavy on his opponent, to stop him from grabbing his own gi, Vinny feeds Scott’s lapel through to his left hand which is hooked around Scott’s head.
Taking it in his left hand, Vinny slides his right hand past his opponent’s neck and grabs the lapel with both hands.
Vinny establishes a baseball-like grip on his opponent’s gi and prepares to start the choke.
Transitioning from full mount, Vinny puts his left foot out to the side and uses his right knee to pin his opponent to the mat.
Keeping his left arm straight, Vinny slides his right elbow towards Scott’s shoulder, closing the choke and forcing the tap.
If he is unable to get the choke from this position, Vinny slides his elbow all the way down onto Scott’s neck and walks around him, shoulder down, until he’s in north-south position. Vinny then applies pressure with his elbow, forcing the tap.
