GETTING FOXY

Wow! What amazing news it is that the UFC is going to be on Fox Sports. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the announcement. This is going to mean such big things for MMA in America that I can’t even begin to fathom it all. I mean, not only will millions more people get to be exposed to our great sport, but we get to watch great fights for free and now see our favorite fighters pop up in more places than ever. I’m already imagining Georges St Pierre being interviewed during the bottom of the seventh during a Chicago Cubs game, Jon Jones on the cover of Esquire, hell, even Dana White visiting the White House. Seriously, it could happen.

It’s hard to believe this isn’t the beginning of a boom for the UFC and MMA in the US. That might mean we’re going to experience a new breed of ‘TUF noobs’ but I’ll gladly take that if it means we gain everything else. Awesome move UFC!

JUDGE MENTAL 

I just wanted to say what an interesting read your feature on judging was in issue 33. Reading about the different scoring alternatives, and discovering that judges aren’t even paid enough to live off their services really opened my eyes.

I’d never heard of ‘Doc’ Hamilton’s half-point system before, but after reading your feature and doing some extra research, it looks like the perfect alternative. Although it seems the fourth table judge has been advised against by the Association of Boxing Commissions, I still think it needs to stay to make sure it’s an improvement upon, and not just a repeat of, the current 10-point-must system.

I’m curious to see what my fellow Fighters Only readers think. I’m for the half-point system, but are they? If not, then why, and what do they prefer? We really need to get a dialogue going on this to promote much-needed change, or at the very least a tweak to the 10-point-must system.
