It’s all about the tights
We’ve seen fighters wear everything from kimonos to pink leotards, but Shinya Aoki trumps them all with his consistently hideous tights. Aoki is one of the best grapplers on the planet though, so we figured we’d see what all the fuss is about. After a test run in the gym, we discovered the tights can improve your grappling skills by at least 30% [statistics are for comedy value only]. The only downside is you’ll have to put up with the jibes from your training partners. Tough choice.
UFC 100 at the Garden?
Everyone wants to know what the UFC are planning for their 100th show. We’ve heard rumours that it could be held at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York, a city that has so far resisted legislation permitting MMA. The tide is turning though, and we could well see MMA in the Big Apple before the year is out.
205: a division in turmoil
The light heavyweights have been the UFC’s marquee fighters for a long time, but the division seems to be in absolute turmoil at the moment. Undefeated Rashad Evans has put himself top of the pile, but the big question is: ‘How long can he remain there?’
It’s a good time to be a bookworm
In the last issue we ran a feature listing some of the excellent new books that are hitting the market. January saw at least another three on our shelves, two of which you can find in this very issue. As if our bookshelves weren’t strained enough, at the rate books about MMA are being released we’ll be able to open our own library!
