Counter a jab with a high kick no one will ever see coming…
Greg Jackson
MMA’s most in-demand coach demonstrates the best techniques for the cage, aided by UFC bantamweight, John Dodson
1 John steps forward, which alerts Greg that he’s about to throw a jab.
2 As John extends his arm, Greg moves his head off-center.
3 John’s hand misses its target and as Greg continues to fade to the right, he raises his left leg.
4 As John has committed to his punch, Greg can catch him unaware by kicking him in the head on his far side.
TOP TIPS
AMATEUR
If you’re not flexible enough to reach the head, a hard kick to the body or leg can still deal significant damage.
SEMI-PRO
Defend yourself at all times. Keep your head protected when you move it away from the center line.
PROFESSIONAL
Don’t try to anticipate the jab. Your lean should be a reaction to your opponent’s movement.
