Despite the short-notice efforts from UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and challenger Brandon Moreno, who both agreed for a quick turnaround title fight after winning last weekend at UFC 255, December’s pay-per-view is back down to one title fight.
UFC 256 was all set to feature Petr Yan’s first defence of his UFC bantamweight title against Aljamain Sterling. However, the Russian withdrew from the fight citing personal reasons.
A women’s featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson has also fallen through for UFC 256.
Despite his obvious disappointment at losing his first title shot, Sterling was classy when he talked about the news on social media.
“Everything happens for a reason,” Sterling stated on Twitter. “I hope everything is good with you and your family [Petr Yan].
“We will settle our business when you can be 100% focused and ready to give the fans the best show we can. See you soon.”
