OVERHAND RIGHT TO SINGLE LEG

Greg (left) squares off with his sparring partner Wade Stringer.

Greg throws a jab, simultaneously angling off to the right with a big step. Greg makes sure he moves far enough to end up on the outside of Wade’s left shoulder, so he’s out of the way of any strong right counter strikes.

Greg adjusts to his own center line and throws an overhand right. Wade’s hand is blocking high to prevent the overhand right from connecting.

With Wade’s blocking hand high, Greg’s head is in exactly the correct position to exert pressure on Wade’s chest. So Greg goes in for a single-leg takedown using his favored grip.

Greg lifts up the leg, making sure his grip is just above the back of Wade’s knee.

Greg takes a step back and pulls Wade’s leg into his body. Most importantly, Greg exerts pressure on Wade’s chest using his head to bring wade down. From here Greg can choose to grapple or strike from the top depending on the gameplan.
