Issue 137
January 2016
Close the door on your opponent’s attack, then fire back with a slip, dip, block and strike combination that can deal some serious damage.
1.As Rafael attacks with a jab, Fernando leans to his right to slip the strike.
2.Fernando avoids Rafael's next attack- a right hook - by rolling under it.
3.Rafael continues his attack with a left hook that Fernando blocks with his right arm.
4.Launching his own attack, Fernando counters with a left hook.
5.Fernando follows up with a right cross which makes Rafael back up.
6.Fernando walks forward to find his range by taking a step with his right foot.
7.Now in a switched stance, Fernando finishes the combination with a powerful left kick.
TOP TIPS:
STUDENT
- Swing your left arm horizontally away from your body and defend your head with your right hand when you throw the left kick.
KRU
- If you’re not flexible enough to throw a head kick, finish this combination with a body kick and practice post-training stretching to reach new heights.
MASTER
- Keep your opponent guessing by planting your leg in your switched stance directly after throwing the high kick.
