The 155- and 205-pound divisions were on show in Atlanta, Georgia at PFL 4 as some notable names were bumped out of contention after the final round of regular season bouts.
The main event at the Overtime Elite Arena saw Clay Collard edged out via split decision by Alexander Martinez, who earned a spot in the lightweight playoffs and in the process eliminated Collard, who had been considered a major contender for the championship in 2022.
Joining Martinez in the lightweight playoffs will be Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Anthony Pettis. The former UFC lightweight champion remains top of the lightweight standings despite competing just once so far.
“Showtime” takes on Stevie Ray on June 24 knowing his place in the final four is already assured. Ray can earn a spot in the playoffs with a stoppage victory, but if he is unsuccessful in that aim, the fourth playoffs spot at 155 pounds will go to defending champ Raush Manfio, who faces a nervous wait before learning whether he has made it through as the final qualifier.
Notable absentees from the playoffs include Collard, former champ Natan Schulte and former UFC featherweight contender Jeremy Stephens, whose split-decision win over Myles Price wasn’t enough to earn “Lil’ Heathen” a spot in the final four.
The co-main event saw reigning 2021 PFL light heavyweight champion Antonio Carlos Jr. defeat PFL Challenger Series winner Bruce Souto via unanimous decision. “Shoeface’s” victory booked his place in the light heavyweight playoffs, and also helped Delan Monte secure a spot in the final four.
Topping the light heavyweight standings after the two regular season bouts are Rob Wilkinson and Omari Akhmedov. Both fighters finished with 11 points after back-to-back finishes in their first two bouts of the season. They’re joined by Carlos Jr. and Monte in the light heavyweight playoffs.
