OKTAGON MMA are continuing to show themselves to be one of biggest up and coming promotions, with the announcement that their October 12 event will now take place inside the 55,000 seat Frankfurt Football Stadium.
The promotion's expansion into new territories has largely been successful but outside of their native Czech Republic, it is hard to argue that they have witnessed as much success anywhere else, as they have in Germany.
The promotion put together another stellar card last Saturday (March 23) in Germany with OKTAGON 55 going down in Stuttgart. At the top of the bill, German athlete Christian Jungwirth claiming a unanimous decision win over five rounds against Robert Pukac.
The night as a whole was relatively successful for German athletes, in front of their home crowd, with the likes of Michael Deiga-Scheck, Jamie Cordero, and Alexander Poppeck all picking up victories.
OKTAGON 62 will mark the promotion's second event of 2024 inside a football stadium, with them heading to the Eden Stadium in Prague on June 8 for OKTAGON 58. The card is still being finalised at the time of writing but it will feature the 'Rematch Of The Century' between Karlos Vemola and Attila Vegh.
The two stadium shows will see OKTAGON host almost 90,000 fans combined, no small feat for any promotion. Discussing the reason behind booking the stadium, OKTAGON owner Pavol Neruda said:
"Ever since we started doing shows in Frankfurt and speaking to the guys here, there seems to be some sort of magic here. It's always been big here and we keep selling out the Festhalle.
"Germany is such a huge country and we believe there is always a chance to really make MMA big here. There was only one option really for us when it came to a stadium show here; Deutsche Bank Park is massive and it also has the closing roof that we need as well, just in case.
"For us, it seems like the perfect timing after selling out Cologne and the biggest indoor arena, this is the next step. We are aware it is a huge step, we are very humble because this goal is super ambitious.
"We believe we can sell this event out because the size of the event itself is going to attract people we believe. We are planning to bring big artists for the half-time shows, real global stars and we are now in negotiations.”
There have been no bouts officially announced by the promotion for their October 12 card but fans can expect matchups, that will be perfectly suited to the monumental event, to be announced over the coming months.
