Stevie Ray came into the main event of PFL Europe 3 knowing that he could be making the final walk of his career.
The former PFL regular season finalist was heading into Glasgow with all the intentions of fighting one last time in front of his home crowd.
After delivering one of the most memorable night of his career, it looks like "Braveheart" may have to push the retirement back a few more months in his calendar.
"So yeah, it was supposed to be my last fight. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. You know what, see anybody that's been in this sport as long as me, they'll know, any fighters that's been in this sport as long as me, they'll know. There's so many ups and downs with this sport. It's tough but I love this so has anybody seen Wolf of Wall Street when he gets to that point, 'I'm not f****** leaving!'.
In front of his friends, family and supporters, Ray was able to stun the crowd by producing an incredibly rare submission.
Back in 2022, he earned the biggest win of his career by securing a twister submission over former UFC champion Anthony Pettis.
He managed to apply his own modified version of that technique, coined as the "Scottish twister", against Wales' Lewis Long to send the Scottish fans home happy.
"I felt good before it, you know, I was ready to go. I knew Lewis was going to be tough, he's big. I stepped up to welterweight, a whole stone heavier. I've been out a wee bit and as you've seen, the start of the fight I was in some trouble there a wee bit so yeah, pulled off the Scottish twister again so those out there that weren't sure if it's a real move, it's f****** real!"
"To be honest, I felt, I've been in this game nearly 15 years fighting professional. There's not really anything that will happen in the cage that I've never seen before so you know, it was just come in and fight. I'm well-rounded and to be honest, I visualized loads of different stuff. Some of the bad visualizations comes in as well and you just try to throw that away to the side but yeah, I would have liked to have shown more striking. I was going to try and get after the body shots but I just had to pull the Scottish twister out the bag so there we go."
Ray said that after an incredible night in Glasgow, he may have it in him to lace up the gloves one more time.
However, after talking about why he has continued to fight for so long, he made it clear that he wants something big in order to make that walk once again.
"Obviously I'm wanting to stay with the PFL but this is why I fight, for my family. I used to fight because I love it, I still do love it but the main reason I fight now it to provide for these five in the cage, the six of us. They cost a lot of money so Donn Davis, Pete Murray, if you want to see this again, get the wallet out. Pete Murray said that if I beat Pettis again, he would show me the money and Pettis got close to a million pounds for losing to me the first time and I get he's a big name but yeah Pete, get that wallet out. Give me a bigger name, no disrespect to Lewis, give me the big guys again."
