The biggest flyweight title fight ever in OKTAGON MMA is heading to Hamburg.
OKTAGON 73 goes down on Saturday, June 28, and newly crowned champion, Beno Adamia (12-8-2), will defend his belt for the first time against UFC veteran, Zhalgas Zhumagulov (17-9). The promotion will break new ground once again in Germany by taking over Barclays Arena for the very first time with tickets already 85% sold out in the 15,000 seat venue.
Adamia is currently riding a six-fight winning streak and is displaying the best form of his career. He dropped down a division in May last year and earned a decision victory over Stipe Brčić before defeating European standout, Sam Creasey, to capture gold two months ago. The Georgian talent will be hoping to retain his title and remain alongside Ilia Topuria and Merab Dvalishvili as champions from the county. However, to do so, he will have to halt the charge of an oncoming wrecking ball!
Zhumagulov is a former Fight Nights Global title-holder and has competed against the likes of Ali Bagautinov, Amir Albazi and Manel Kape. The Kazak personality became well-known for his distinct look and exciting fighting style in the UFC, where he dropped a number of split decisions that were highly debatable. He arrived in OKTAGON MMA last November and dominated Aaron Aby over three rounds to cement this shot at the throne. Straight after that bout, Zhumagulov made it known nothing would stop him from taking the strap and he now has the chance to usher in a new era for the division on June 28.
The event also sees the return of ‘The King of Germany’, Christian Eckerlin, as the MMA superstar takes on ‘The Prince of Bratislava’, Robert Pukač, who recently knocked out David Kozma, in a welterweight matchup. Two German UFC alums, Niklas Stolze and Jessin Ayari, will also collide in Barclays Arena.
