Issue 148
December 2016
Don’t let your opponent think they’re safe against the wall – wrench them away and onto the ground.
1: Ricky has Dan pressed against the wall with an underhook and control of his bicep.
2: Ricky uses his underhook to pull down on Dan’s shoulder while stepping back with his right foot.
3: As Dan’s head goes down for a second, Ricky reaches over Dan with his right hand and joins his hands together.
4: With Dan under control in a front headlock, Ricky drops to one knee and pulls Dan down with him.
5: Ricky moves his right arm across and behind Dan’s shoulder, then starts to cut an angle with his feet.
6: After shooting his right arm to Dan’s far hip, Ricky drives his body into Dan’s side and pulls his knees towards him.
7: Dan’s back hits the mat and Ricky begins to establish a dominant position.
TOP TIPS
WHITE BELT
Foot stomps can be used against the cage to make your opponent alter their stance.
PURPLE BELT
You could go for a guillotine from step 4, but you could run the risk of finishing on bottom if you’re not successful.
BLACK BELT
Your opponent is only strong when their hips are parallel to the wall. Pulling them away will break their balance.
