Issue 148
December 2016
Brooklyn’s Invicta champ Angela Hill doesn’t have any issue making 115lb.
Are you strict with your diet?
I pretty much eat what I want, but I try to keep it fresh and healthy, so no frozen dinners or anything.
Is yours a hard weight cut?
When I up my level of training I usually drop to 120lb – when I’m doing two-a-days and sprints. It’s a struggle to keep weight on.
When we go harder my body metabolizes everything really fast. I’m not the smallest strawweight, but I’m definitely on the smaller end, so I seriously have to eat more so I have a little more bulk to me.
What do you eat to bulk up?
We do a bunch of different stuff. Usually, it’s any lean meat like chicken or beef and eggs. We’ll do brown rice or pasta… Or y’know, toast.
Anything that’s handful of carbs, a handful of veggies and a handful of meat.
Maybe a couple of fats like avocado or nuts. We keep it pretty simple.
Do you cook?
I have my husband for a chef (laughs). I’m too sleep-drained for cooking.
If I have to make anything, then I’ll forget about it. It’s burned as soon as I walk away, it’s over.
I can make simple things. I’m good at breakfast. I can make toast and eggs pretty well. But I’m definitely not an ace in the kitchen.
Are your training partners jealous you can eat bread?
I cut out carbs the week of, so I feel their pain a little bit, but I’m not doing anything crazy.
If I try to get the atomweight belt I’d have to cut out bread and I’d be really sad about that.
Do you dread eating anything?
There is one thing – the shakes. It’s to keep the weight on and my husband literally force-feeds them to me. He makes them good, but after the 20th shake of fight camp you just want to smack it away.
What do you enjoy most after a fight?
Drinking. I like beer (laughs). I usually go for a stout, a porter or an IPA. I like little fancy craft beers.
And pizza. And whisky. It doesn’t really matter what kind – as long as it’s not Jack Daniels.
