The Octagon returned to the world's most famous arena last night for UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
In the main event, the consensus greatest of all time capped off another historic night at the Garden by defending his heavyweight throne.
Jon Jones put on a dominant performance against the returning Stipe Miocic before stopping the former two-time champion with a devastating spinning back kick to the body in the third round.
In the aftermath of the headliner, Jones announced that he isn't hanging up the gloves just yet but the same can't be said for Miocic who leaves behind a stellar legacy.
As expected, the co-main event featured high drama as Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler ran back their instant classic from 2021 over five rounds.
"Do Bronx" was on point for the first four rounds and looked like he might get the finish at multiple points but in the fifth round, when he needed it most, Chandler responded and nearly pulled off a stunning comeback finish but it was too little, too late.
Bo Nickal remained undefeated following his first decision win against Paul Craig in a fairly uneventful striking contest between the two grappling specialists.
Viviane Araújo leaned on her experience and cardio to hand Karine Silva her first loss inside the Octagon whilst James Llontop was unable to hand Mauricio Ruffy a shock loss despite the fight being far more competitive than many expected.
Other highlights came from Jim Miller's vintage submission win over Damon Jackson, who announced his retirement after the fight and Marcin Tybura's stoppage over Jhonata Diniz.
Along with Jones, two fighters on the early prelims won performance bonuses after both Ramiz Brahimaj and Oban Elliott produced knockout finishes.
Fight of the night honours unsurprisingly were awarded to the two all-action lightweights that stole the show in the co-main event.
