UFC 312 may be going ahead without the use of any back-up fighters but that doesn't mean that one title challenger isn't bringing along some additional firepower.
It was recently announced that the UFC's light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will be making the trip over to Australia in order to corner Sean Strickland on February 8.
Strickland will be looking to reclaim the middleweight title in the main event when he faces Dricus Du Plessis in a rematch.
The former champ has struck up a great relationship with Pereira ever since they met inside the Octagon back in July of 2022.
On that night at UFC 276, "Poatan" handed Strickland his most decisive loss at middleweight when he stopped him in the first round with a trademark left hook.
This win pushed Pereira into title contention with the Brazilian going on to win the 185-pound title when he stopped Israel Adesanya in his next outing.
The two men have put a lot of work in alongside one another since then and the 205-pound titleholder was even in Strickland's corner for his first meeting with Du Plessis at UFC 297.
What makes this time even more remarkable is that the following month, Pereira will be defending his title against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 but he isn't going to let a training camp get in the way of helping out a friend.
Strickland's head coach, Eric Nicksick, announced the news in a recent interview with The Schmo:
"We'll have Alex Pereira in the corner so, drop the news right now. I mean he's a good friend of Sean, he's a great training partner. Obviously these guys have fought but after the fight, I think it takes a man to go and learn from the guy who caught you with something. These guys trained with each other a ton. Sean went up there to help him get ready for Khalil Rountree and I love having him man, it's great energy, so we just talked yesterday, we're gonna have the fourth and it's gonna be Alex so I can't wait to have him."
