Irish star Paul Hughes has suffered a knee injury and will no longer be fighting in the main event when the PFL returns to his adopted home city of Belfast next month.
In a video posted to his Instagram account today, Hughes (14-3) confirmed that he has suffered a knee injury and will no longer be fit to face New Zealand’s Jay Jay Wilson (11-2) at the SSE Arena on April 16.
The promotion has moved fast to restructure the card, with Hughes’s fellow countryman Darragh Kelly (9-0) stepping in as his replacement to face Wilson in the headline bout. Kelly had originally been scheduled to take on Sergio Cossio at the event.
Newly-signed UFC veteran Rhys McKee (14-7-1) is set to feature in the co-main event, although his opponent isn’t set to be announced until next week, while former Bellator title challenger Pedro Carvalho steps in to replace Darragh Kelly against Sergio Cossio on the undercard, which also features former UFC bantamweight Caolan Loughran (10-3) taking on Alan Philpott (21-17).
