A Czech and German legend will collide this summer in Prague.
Former champion, David Kozma (33-15), takes on UFC and PFL veteran, David Zawada (20-12), in a welterweight bout at OKTAGON 92. The contest will go down on Saturday, August 1, in the stunning outside setting of Štvanice which has hosted some of the most memorable moments in the promotion’s history. Furthermore, the event also marks the Czech leg of our ten-year anniversary celebrations in one of the most must-see shows of the MMA calendar.
Kozma is one of the most popular athletes ever in OKTAGON and he previously defended the welterweight title five times, making him the longest reigning champion in the organisation still to date. However, ‘Pink Panther’ then faced a challenging period in his career, losing three straight, all by first round stoppage. He realised something had to change to get back on track, so he moved gyms to Reinders MMA, which resulted in a victory over Jozef Wittner in his most recent outing. Still dreaming of reclaiming his throne in the near future, Kozma knows the next step of that path runs through Zawada at home in Prague.
Zawada is as battle tested as they come on the continent, having shared the cage with the likes of Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Carlos Leal and Matěj Peňáz. He last competed against another Czech talent, Daniel Ligocki, back in January where he earned a thrilling decision win which was also awarded ‘Performance of the Night’. ‘Sagat’ now has the opportunity to take the scalp of one of the biggest stars in the promotion, ensuring he continues to climb the divisional ladder to further significant bouts. Chances like this don’t come around very often!
Elsewhere on the card, double champion, Will Fleury, puts his light heavyweight title on the line in a rematch opposite Daniel Škvor. Also, fellow double champion, Lucia Szabová, defends her bantamweight strap against Lucie Pudilová in the female ‘Fight of the Century’. Hafeni Nafuka also takes on Tomáš Mudroch at welterweight.
