Former ONE heavyweight champion Oumar Kane, better known as “Reug Reug,” has announced that he has parted ways with ONE Championship after five years with the organization.

The Senegalese star revealed the news in a statement posted to Instagram on Friday, confirming that his release had been mutually agreed and teasing an imminent return to competition.

“After five years, my chapter with ONE Championship has officially come to an end,” Kane wrote.

“I gave everything to the organisation, but after everything that happened before, during and after my last fight, I could no longer continue under these circumstances.

“My release has now been agreed.”

Kane did not elaborate on the specific issues that led to his departure, but indicated that he is already preparing for the next phase of his career.

“I am ready for the next chapter, ready to fight in August, and my next fight will be announced this Friday,” he said.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey.

“See you in the CAGE.”

Reug Reug joined ONE Championship in 2020 and quickly established himself as one of the promotion's most recognizable heavyweight stars. The former Senegalese wrestling standout compiled an impressive run in the organization, ultimately capturing the ONE heavyweight title and becoming one of Africa's most prominent mixed martial artists.

His departure creates immediate intrigue regarding his future, with Kane suggesting that he already has his next bout lined up for August. The identity of his new promotion and opponent is expected to be revealed on Friday.
