Elbek Alyshov challenges Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu for the ONE Bantamweight MMA World Title in the main event of The Inner Circle 24 on Friday, July 31. The card streams on live.onefc.com for members from Bangkok's historic Lumpinee Stadium.
A win would instantly transform Alyshov from an unbeaten star into a titleholder, validating years spent building a 10-0 record through dominant grappling wins over Jeremy Pacatiw and Carlo Bumina-ang. A loss, on the other hand, would end his perfect record.
For Baatarkhuu, the stakes cut just as deep. A successful first defense would validate a breakout year that included a run on Netflix's Physical: Asia and a submission win over Fabricio Andrade to capture the title in the first place, while a loss would end his reign after a single defense.
Baatarkhuu has become just the second Mongolian in history to claim ONE World Title gold, a milestone that carried him well beyond the sport's core audience and into a meeting with his country's president. That newfound profile only raises the stakes further for Friday's assignment.
Alyshov has made no secret of how highly he rates his own game heading into the biggest test of his career.
"I believe that my wrestling is the best in MMA — not only in ONE Championship, but across all organizations," Alyshov said.
"I know every movement, I think several steps ahead, and I am very cunning. I also feel that I am well-rounded, and when it comes to wrestling in MMA, there is no one else like me."
Despite that confidence, Alyshov readily admits the experience gap between himself and a five-round veteran works against him on paper.
"I think my position as the underdog is deserved because Enkh has experience in five-round fights. He has spent a great deal of time competing and has fought the best. I do not have that kind of experience yet," Alyshov said.
"But it does not scare me at all because I know that only real challenges push us forward, and only by overcoming real challenges can we reach a new level."
Whatever the outcome, Alyshov has already settled on how he wants the moment remembered.
"On July 31, the fans will see Elbek go all the way for victory. He will stand his ground, and the people will see a warrior — a warrior who came here to win," Alyshov said.
