Magomed Magomedov has not lost in 15 professional fights, and his last five have all ended before the final bell. His first ONE assignment is a main event against one of the lightweight division's most in-form contenders.

The Dagestani faces Lucas Gabriel in the headliner of ONE Fight Night 49 on Prime Video on Friday, November 6, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. He accepted the bout on roughly two weeks' notice after Alibeg Rasulov withdrew injured, and he has already settled on a strategy.

"As far as I understand, my opponent has a good Muay Thai background, but he can also wrestle. I believe my main advantages could be constant pressure and wrestling," Magomedov said.

"I want to impose my pace on him, control the fight, and use my strengths."

That plan reflects his background. A Master of Sport in MMA who trains with KHK Dagestan in Makhachkala, Magomedov is known for wearing opponents down until they break.

Gabriel presents a specific problem for that approach. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt is 5-0 in ONE and hunts submissions from every position, which means extended grappling exchanges carry risk for anyone who initiates them.

His promotional record includes a submission of Gadzhimurad Amirzhanov and decision victories over Magomed Akaev and former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Ok Rae Yoon. His striking, often overlooked, also allows him to take chances on the mat that few opponents can exploit.

The matchup will therefore test whether Magomedov's pressure can be sustained without opening submission opportunities. The short preparation window adds another variable to an already complex puzzle.

The division's title picture raises the stakes further. Christian Lee defends the ONE Lightweight MMA World Title against Tye Ruotolo at The Inner Circle 37 less than 24 hours before this bout, and Lee's previous defense came against Rasulov.

A win would allow Magomedov to bypass the usual climb through the rankings. He has outlined exactly how he intends to pursue it.

"I expect a competitive fight and am ready for any scenario. My goal is to apply constant pressure, use my wrestling, and control the fight," Magomedov said.

"I am stepping into the [ring] to win, and I will do everything possible to achieve the result I want."
