Another intriguing matchup has been added to the already jam-packed ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug card.
The Saturday, 9th November, event will now play host to a women’s atomweight MMA showdown between Japanese ace Ayaka Miura and promotional newcomer Macarena Aragon inside Bangkok, Thailand’s famed Lumpinee Stadium.
Miura has made her mark in ONE Championship, having competed 10 times across her five-year tenure.
The judo star's trademark “Ayaka Lock” submission hold helped her score back-to-back wins on her arrival in 2019, and three victories in four fights earned her the right to challenge long-time strawweight MMA queen Xiong Jing Nan at ONE: HEAVY HITTERS in January 2022.
“Zombie” came up short that night, but her thirst for competition didn’t end there.
She fought twice more at strawweight and flipped briefly to submission grappling to take on former atomweight titleholder Danielle Kelly before deciding to move to the atomweight MMA ranks, where she immediately found her feet.
Miura met Itsuki Hirata in her divisional debut this past January at ONE 165 in Tokyo, and she carved out an impressive decision win over her compatriot.
She’ll be looking to add to that momentum in Bangkok next month, and another win could see her thrown into the World Title conversation. But Aragon will be out to stop that from happening as she looks to make a name for herself from the start of her ONE tenure.
The Argentinian enters the promotion boasting a 3-0 professional slate, with two of those victories coming by submission.
She is a gifted grappler who knows a win over Miura will put the stacked atomweight MMA division on notice.
Their battle promises to be a nail-biter, and the winner could emerge as a contender to Stamp Fairtex’s crown when all is said and done at ONE 169.
