The third week of this year’s Dana white’s Contender Series went down at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, headlined by the biggest upset in the show’s history.
Alex Apodaca defeated Bella Mir via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Bella Mir – daughter of legendary UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir – came into this fight as the biggest betting favorite in the history of DWCS.
Apodaca was undeterred though, and after a difficult opening round she outpointed “Lady” over the following two to earn a unanimous decision win and a UFC contract.
Guilherme Uriel defeated Mario Piazzon via submission (standing guillotine) at 0:50 of round one
Guilherme Uriel returned for his second appearance on the show, having been defeated by Josh Hokit first time out last year.
The Brazilian capitalized on his second opportunity, submitting Mario Piazzon in the evening’s co-main event and earning himself a UFC contract.
Sean Clancy Jr. defeated Gary Balleto via TKO at 3:54 of round two
Scottish prospect Sean Clancy Jr. extended his 100% finish rate by taking out Gary Balleto in the biggest fight of his career. The 23-year-old former Cage Warriors interim welterweight champion dominated every facet of the fight and was among those awarded a UFC contract by Dana White at the show’s conclusion.
Ronald Humphrey defeated Alexis Miranda via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:03 of round one
Ronald Humphrey moved to 5-0 with a brutally bloody finish over Alexis Miranda. “The Career Ender” went on the front foot from the opening bell, eventually knocking down Miranda and securing the submission late in the opening round, and with it a UFC contract.
Nick Galanti defeated Carlos Petruzzella via knockout at 0:35 of round one
In the opening bout of the night, Nick Galanti pushed Carlos Petruzzella up against the fence before catching him with a thunderous right hand as they separated. Some vicious ground and pound forced the referee to step in and give Galanti the fastest finish of the evening.
