UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has made it known that he wants to fight World Wrestling Entertainment’s Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar seemingly reciprocated Cormier’s desire, storming the cage following his title win at UFC 226 back in July. Days later, former UFC heavyweight champion Lesnar begun the process of re-entering the USADA drug testing pool with a view to fight “DC.”
Things all looked set for the pair to fight, until Lesnar signed a new contract with the WWE and becoming their champion once again.
However, Lesnar’s kayfabe “manager” and real-life confidant Paul Heyman is confident we will see Lesnar back in the UFC Octagon, as long as the money is right.
“As long as Daniel Cormier has the balls to step into the Octagon and put his title up against Brock Lesnar and UFC comes up with the money for Brock Lesnar, I don’t see anything that would keep Brock Lesnar from taking the fight,” Heyman told TMZ Sports.
Cormier was seemingly holding out for the Lesnar fight in the new year. However, he stepped in for a short-notice title fight against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 earlier in November.
The current heavyweight and light heavyweight concurrent champion says he wishes to retire by the time he turns 40 in March of next year. Lesnar and long-time rival Jon Jones appear to be the most-likely opponents he will face by that time.
Lesnar last fought in the UFC back in 2016 at UFC 200 following a near five-year break away from MMA.
The Minnesotan won a decision over kickboxer Mark Hunt, but that was overturned after Lesnar tested positive for performance-enhancing drug clomiphene.
