Poland came out on top of the Senior medals table at the end of a very eventful 2024 GAMMA European Championship.
The event, which was hosted by the Slovakian MMA Association, ended on May 19, with the Polish team taking home 5 gold medals and 2 bronze, very comfortably finishing at the top of the Nation table.
Two tine champion Iwo Baraniewski collected his third gold medal when he defeated Cristian Constantinov of the Republic of Moldova by unanimous decision in the 120.2kg final.
In one of the most fascinating bouts on the final day, Nika Bregvadze of Georgia went toe to toe with the Czech Republic's Adam Jakubik. Jakubik took the split decision but was unable to compete in the final against Polishman Maciej Strezelecki when he failed a post fight medical.
European MMA Striking MMA silver medallist Denis Malikov secured the gold medial with a split decision victory in his final bout. Poland claimed yet another gold medal when 2022 Bronze medallist Pawel Grzeszczak and Daniele Scagliusi added a European gold to his 2023 Silver World medal with a unanimous decision victory.
The striking MMA bouts took place during the morning and saw several medals collected by numerous different countries. At 61.2kg, there was set to be an all Slovakian final between Martin Koky and Adam Neupauer but the latter was forced to withdraw from the bout, giving Koky the gold.
Although Poland finished at the top of the table in the senior division, when the under 18s and senior medals were combined, it was in fact Ukraine who came out on top overall.
