There’s no UFC event for fight fans to sink their teeth into this weekend, but European MMA supporters won’t be left wanting as Festhalle Frankfurt in Germany plays host to OKTAGON 76.
In the main event, hometown hero Daniel Weichel (42-15) comes out of retirement as he fights in Frankfurt for the very first time, taking on dangerous French contender Abou Tounkara (12-6) in a lightweight showdown. A pioneer of German MMA, Weichel was competing long before the sport gained mainstream traction in his home country, helping pave the way for current national standouts like Christian Eckerlin, Alexander Jungwirth, and Martin Coga.
But this won’t be a victory lap. Tounkara is coming to crash the celebration and show he’s not making the trip just to fill out the card. With nine of his wins coming inside the distance, he brings fight-ending power every time he steps in the cage.
In the co-main event, rising star Frederic Vosgröne (4-0) returns for his second appearance in the promotion, facing off against knockout specialist Fabio Moraes (7-1) in a light heavyweight clash. Nicknamed “The Neanderthal,” Vosgröne made waves with a spectacular submission win in his debut back in April, sparking comparisons to Brock Lesnar and Paddy Pimblett.
But Moraes is out to derail the hype train. With all seven of his victories coming by stoppage, the heavy-handed Brazilian plans to test Vosgröne’s resolve from the opening bell.
