Michael Bisping believes that Merab Dvalishvili needs to take some time away from the Octagon.

Dvalishvili (21–5 MMA, 14–3 UFC) fell agonizingly short in his bid to become the first UFC champion to successfully defend his belt four times in a single calendar year when he was outpointed by Petr Yan (20–5 MMA, 12–4 UFC) at UFC 323 last month. “The Machine” had rattled off wins over Umar Nurmagomedov, Sean O’Malley, and Cory Sandhagen throughout 2025, but a rematch against Yan (whom he defeated in 2023) proved a step too far for the Georgian.

In typical fashion, Dvalishvili is already calling for an immediate rematch with Yan, but UFC color commentator Bisping suggests that the former titleholder may be better served by sitting back and allowing “No Mercy” to put the 135-pound title on the line against the next contender before swooping in later to reclaim his position.

“I think if Merab takes a good break, takes some time off, maybe six months, lets Yan fight Umar Nurmagomedov,” Bisping suggested while speaking with Jon Anik on the set of the JAXXON podcast.

“Come back and fight the winner. Taking six months away enjoying the spoils of his riches, enjoying his hard work. Go to Georgia. Spend time with family. Eat some food. Just think about nothing else but fighting. Think about nothing. Don't think about fighting.”
