Joshua Van’s first defense of the UFC flyweight championship will have to wait a bit longer.

During the UFC Vegas 115 broadcast on Saturday, the promotion confirmed that Van has suffered a “minor injury” and his bout against Tatsuro Taira (originally scheduled for next weekend at UFC 327) has been pushed back to UFC 328 on May 9, which is set to take place at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Van (16-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) captured the flyweight title in December at UFC 323, defeating Alexandre Pantoja via injury TKO in a somewhat anticlimactic finish.

Japanese star Taira (18-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) is set to challenge for UFC gold for the first time. After suffering the first loss of his career against former title contender Brandon Royval in October 2024, Taira has rebounded impressively with consecutive second-round finishes over Hyun Sung Park and former champion Brandon Moreno.
